In this session you will learn how to identify common and uncommon trees of north Florida.  PowerPoint and live samples will be utilized to give key identification characteristics.

In this session you will learn what to do when you find signs or symptoms of one of the "seven deadly fungi".

What is the Risk?  Indoor – Chris Francis - Chris Francis Tree Care
We will walk you through the task of assessing tree risk and options for mitigation.  Risk assessment can be very basic (drive-by), routine (pre-climb inspection), or as advanced as you can dream.  The procedure, tools, and thought process will be examined.  Options will be explored for making situations safer and when it is appropriate to do nothing at all.

Understanding the role of safety in our industry.  Risk conditions exist everywhere in tree work, many risks can be mitigated through prevention and control, some cannot.  Our challenge is to recognize these situations and ensure we do not transition into danger.

OUR EXPERTS

ROB CALLEY is a Board Certified Master Arborist. In addition to BCMA, he holds the TCIA Certified Tree Care Safety Professional credential and the ISA Tree Risk Assessor Qualification.  Rob is a TCIA certified instructor for aerial rescue, chainsaw safety, and chipper safety.  He has received three ASTI grants to teach chainsaw safety and aerial rescue and has taught at several AUFA events and FLTCC outdoor schools.  Rob is the climber representative on the ISA Florida Chapter’s Board of Directors.  He practices arboriculture as a small tree care company owner.
 
CHRIS FRANCIS is a practicing and consulting arborist at Chris Francis Tree Care in Daphne, Alabama.  He is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and AL State Licensed Tree Surgeon.  He also holds the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification and AUFA Urban Forestry Certification.  Chris has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from University of South Alabama and is currently working on a master’s in Arboriculture & Urban Forestry from University of Central Lancashire.

DR. ANDREW LOYD is a plant pathologist and mycologist for the Bartlett Tree Research Laboratories based out of Charlotte, NC. Andrew conducts research on tree diseases and wood decay fungi, and serves as technical support in these areas for the Bartlett Tree Experts Company. Andrew completed his Ph.D in Forest Resources and Conservation at the University of Florida in Summer of 2018 where he focused on the biology and taxonomy of Ganoderma species in the United States. Andrew received his BS degree from Louisiana State University and his Master of Science degree from North Carolina State University.

STAN ROSENTHAL currently works for Big Bend Forestry in urban and rural forestry.  Stan retired in 2016 from the University of Florida-IFAS/Leon County Extension as a Forestry Extension Agent where he had worked since 1995.  He held positions with the Florida Division of Forestry in several counties and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service in Wyoming and Wisconsin.  He has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Forest Management from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point. Stan’s certifications include being TRAQ certified by ISA and a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager with the Florida Forest Service.
