Climate change affects people all over the world but disproportionaly affects people in less-developed and developing countries. In developing countries like Malawi, basic necessities like portable water, toilet facilities, and electricity are hard to come by and people are often more vulnerable to disease outbreaks, resource shortages, environmental degradation and loss of life.
In his presentation "Mapping for a Change in Africa," Dr. Suresh Muthukrishnan will discuss his work in Malawi as a Fulbright U.S. Scholar helping to address some of these life-threatening challenges. The innovative and technology-driven solutions explored by Dr. Muthukrishnan have brought unlikely groups together to find solutions.
Dr. Suresh Muthukrishnan is an Associate Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Director of GIS and the Remote Sensing Center at Furman University. Dr. Muthukrishnan and his family (wife Rashmi and daughter Mia) spent a year in Malawi on a Fulbright U.S. Scholarship teaching, researching, and conducting training for capacity building and cultural exchanges.
