We are excited to welcome Doctors Ana Hernandez and Viviana Hall as our Keynote speakers for the 2019 ATDLE Pacific Northwest Institute!


Dr. Ana Hernández is Associate Professor of Multilingual and Multicultural Education and Coordinator of the Bilingual Authorization Program, Dual Language Certificate, and Multicultural Specialist Certificate in the School of Education. She earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the Joint Doctoral Program at the University of California in San Diego and CA State University San Marcos. Her research examines issues of equitable teaching practices and cross-cultural competence in dual language education. Dr. Hernández taught for 32 years in California public schools as a bilingual/dual language teacher in grades K-8th. She is one of the founders of the Association for Two-Way and Dual Language Education (ATDLE) and served as the President of the organization for four years and a board member for over 10. In addition, Dr. Hernández is a national trainer for dual language programs and involved in bilingual teacher preparation through Global Learning Networks.


Viviana Hall has more than 18 years’ experience in bilingual education. She began her teaching career in 1997 and later worked as a faculty member at several north Texas universities and higher education institutions, where she supervised the implementation of bilingual/ESL teacher training programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. Viviana is a former academic director of Ana G. Mendez University System (AGMUS), and she has also served as the Texas Education Agency representative for the Local Campus Improvement Team. She is currently a national education consultant at Istation, where she has been instrumental in the development of Istation’s Spanish products.

Dual Language Development Symposium

The 2019 Pacific Northwest Dual Language Institute will serve teachers and administrators of K-12 programs with specialized session for Secondary Dual Language teachers. There will be 3 rotations of concurrent sessions. These sessions will include:

  • What Dual Language Principals Need to Know
  • Master Plan for Dual Language Implementation
  • Public Relations, Recruitment, and Staffing Strategies for your Dual Language Program
  • Middle School Units of Study
  • Preparing 8th Graders for the AP Test
  • Using IStation as a Resource Tool to Promote Spanish Language Development
  • Let’s Have a Discussion! Promoting Oral Languages Practices at the Intermediate Grade Level
  • Using Technology to Your Advantage
  • How and When To Use an Interactive Notebook in Your Classroom
  • Acentuación
  • Strategies for Oral Language Development in the L2 for K-1st Grade Students
 
This two-day institute costs $375 and includes:    
  • A Friday Evening Reception & Keynote Speech by Dr. Ana Hernández (4:00 - 6:30 pm)
  • Keynote Speech by Dr. Viviana Hall, Istation, Inc. on Saturday morning after breakfast/coffee

ATDLE works throughout the U.S. in an effort to keep TWBI/DL educators up to date on best practices in TWBI educational research, methodology and program implementation.  We plan to include TWBI Program experts to share their knowledge of effective teaching practices and methodology for TWBI/DL teachers.  We have also invited TWBI Administrative experts to work with TWB/DL  program principals and coordinators as you plan your new programs.  So don't wait, register asap.

  Registration Policy

All attendees must register online whether they pay by check or credit card. All funds must be received by January 11, 2019. Any registrations with unpaid balances as of January 11, 2019 will be released to other potential attendees.

Purchase Order Policy

All purchase orders must be paid in full by January 11, 2019 in order for an attendee's registration spot to be guaranteed and not released to other potential attendees.

Cancellation and Substitution Policy

Cancellations and substitutions must be submitted by email to registration@atdle.org. There will be no refunds for cancellations made after December 21, 2018 and because of the pre-ordering of meals and materials, we adhere closely to this policy.
