Description
Two-Day Coach Training
The Practice-Based Coaching Training Institute (PBCTI) is an intensive 2-day event intended for coaches implementing the Practice Based Coaching model. During the PBCTI, coaches will learn how to use Practice-Based Coaching to support staff’s use of high-quality teaching and home-visiting practices.
Coaches will be able to:
- Identify the key components of PBC
- Describe the characteristics of collaborative partnerships
- Work with staff to create shared goals and develop action plans for achieving those goals
- Conduct focused observations based on action plan
- Use reflection and feedback to support staff's implementation to the identified goals
- Meet the Head Start Program Performance Standard for implementing a research-based, coordinated coaching strategy by a trained coach
The training content has been expanded to include coaching in center-based, home-based and family child care program options. Discussion will include coaching to fidelity with a emphasis on using research-based teaching practices.
Who Should Attend?
The PBCTI is designed for staff who provide direct coaching to Head Start staff. These coaches may be supporting classroom teachers, home visitors, family child care providers, or others who work directly with children or families.
PBC Presenters
Jan Brown, Early Childhood Specialist
Jan Brown has been in the field of Early Childhood for 35+ years with 25 of those in a Head Start program and most recently working in the Region V T/TA Network. I have held several positions in Head Start program from the classroom level to management level while wearing many hats throughout the years. I have also designed and implemented coaching systems to support classroom teachers. I graduated with a BS and MS in Early Childhood Education from SIU Carbondale. As a life-long learner, I am committed to growth both personally and professionally.
Verlinda Sims, Early Childhood Specialist
Verlinda has worked in the early childhood field for 30 years 24 of them have been with Head Start. Her experience in Head Start includes being a teacher, director and Education manager. She has been part of Region V TTA system for 7 years. She holds a Master of Education in Early Childhood Administration from National Louis University.
