Compliance rules are constantly changing, and 2019 will be no exception to this rule. This session will review the top ten compliance issues in the new year - what to expect and how to prepare.

11:00 am

The Military Lending Act: Review and Update

The MLA has evolved since its effective date over two years ago. We'll review the provisions of the Department of Defense rules and interpretations, as well as the potential updates to the law that would greatly impact credit union lending to service members and their dependents.

 Noon: Lunch on your own

1:00 pm

Complaint Handling Program

Complaints highlight compliance and operational deficiencies, and will be reviewed by examiners before each one of your credit union exams. This session will provide information on how to create an effective complaint handling program and how to make complaints work to your advantage.

2:30 pm

2019 Regulatory Focus

NCUA and CFPB have announced the regulatory issues of greatest focus for 2019. This session will review these issues and cover how your credit union can successfully address each one.

3:30 pm

Resource Sharing

Attendees are asked to bring and be willing to share one tip for making compliance work better. It can be a "go to" resource you use, a training technique that makes compliance training fun, a short cut you've learned that helps with a process, basically anything you can offer that will make life easier for fellow compliance officers. We'll also save time for general topic Q&As.

Day 2

8:30 Continental Breakfast

9:00 am

Telephone Consumer Protection Act

The TCPA has been the subject of thousands of lawsuits, but courts in 2018 did little to provide greater clarity on how callers can avoid legal liability for telephone calls and text messages to consumers. In this session, we'll review the TCPA provisions, recent TCPA court decisions and Federal Communications Commission Orders, potential Congressional action and where we go from here.

11:00 am

Fair Credit Reporting Act: Review and Update

When can credit unions pull credit reports to review credit report information? Why are numberous FCRA lawsuits filed and how can credit unions avoid getting sued? How did the 2018 Senate Bill signed into law impact the FCRA and our credit union's underwriting criteria? These questions and more will be covered in this session reviewing the FCRA.
