SCORE Boston Workshop

Top Human Resources Issues Business Owners Face – and How to Solve Them

Let’s face it – human resource management is not getting any easier, and it can be especially challenging for smaller businesses with limited resources. Join us for this educational workshop where we’ll discuss some of the most critical HR-related areas to be aware of and how to avoid needless issues, some of which may result in fines, penalties or lawsuits.

We’ll begin by covering five foundational laws that influence how you should be running your business:

  • Fair Labor Standards Act
  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Age Discrimination in Employment Act
  • Immigration Reform Control Act

Next, we’ll dive into the top HR issues that can be complex for even the most seasoned human resources professional, and address strategic strategies you can follow in your business:

  • Job descriptions
  • Forms I-9
  • Classifying employees
  • Compensation
  • Employee handbook
  • Non-harassment policy
  • Discipline and termination
  • Anti-retaliation provisions

If you own or run a small business with employees (not contractors) or are a HR professional in these businesses, this workshop is for you.

This workshop is presented by SCORE Boston. Presenters are James Hoog and Diana Ayers. Diana Ayers is a Human Resource professional with a Master of Science in HR Management.  Diana has 20 years of experience and is currently a Senior Human Resources Generalist at Paychex, Boston. James Hoog has been providing HR services for Paychex for over two years.  Jim holds a BA in HR Management and has over 25 years of professional HR experience.
