History, Theory, & Foundations of Play Therapy

Description: 

Designed to provide basic understanding of play therapy as an appropriate mental health intervention with children. Includes major approaches, stages in play therapy process and the role and responsibility of the therapist. Special issues to be addressed, some of which are precursors to other workshop offerings. An historical perspective relative to the origins, contributions of the giants in the field and the early use of play therapy will be included. Play therapy techniques will be presented and practiced.

This workshop is designed for:

 Social workers (LCSW, LMSW, LISW, BSW, AAW), psychologists (Ph.D., Psy.D., Ed.D.) school counselors, school psychologist, professional counselors (LMHC, LCMHC, CMHC, LPC, LCPC), marriage and family therapists (LMFT, LIMFT) art therapists, play therapists, occupational therapists, graduate students, and others in the mental health-related field.

Presenter: Arti Kumar-Jain, NCC, M.A., M.Ed

Arti Kumar-Jain, MA, M.ED, NCC
Arti Kumar-Jain is currently consultant and presenter. She has over fifteen years of experience in the school setting as an elementary school educator, early childhood educator, tutor, and mental health provider. She received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education and in Community Counseling from Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She has worked in private practice in Virginia Beach and also in Charleston, South Carolina. She has worked at Medical University of South Carolina in mental health for their day treatment program. Arti has also been Co-Director for Barstow Acres Children’s Center Therapeutic Camp and provided presentations and trainings. She has provided international training in Jamaica as part of Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars.

 

Cost: $150.00

ADA Accommodations:

Reasonable accommodations will be provided by Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars if requested by phone or email at least 3 weeks in advance of the workshop.

Cancellation Policy:

     Written cancellation must be received in our office at least ten working days prior to the training. A $25.00 processing fee will be deducted from your refund. Otherwise, a voucher will be given. If you do not notify us a minimum of ten business days prior to the training of your intent to cancel, you will not receive a refund or credit.  Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars reserves the right to cancel a training or workshop due to inclement weather or not enough attendance.  In this event, CBPS will provide you with a full refund.  In the event of inclement weather please check your email for CBPS notifications/instructions and/or voicemail phone system.

Change of Instructors:

     CBPS also reserves the right to change instructors if needed to ensure an effective training.  In the event that this takes place you will be notified with the change as soon as possible.

CE Certificates:

In most cases, certificates are emailed, unless and organization has made other arrangements,  14 days after training is  complete.  Participants must provide proof of attendance by signing in/out of each workshop, paying the registration fee in full, completing an event evaluation, and providing licensure state and identification number.

Continuing Education Approval for Licensed Mental Health Counselors/Social Workers/ School Psychologists/MFCCs/Play Therapists/Art Therapists (except New York state)

SOCIAL WORKERS:

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS), approval number provider #1602, is approved as a provider for continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards, www.aswb.org. ASWB Approval Period from 5/14/2018 to 5/14/2019.  CBPS maintains responsibility for the program. Social workers should contact their regulatory board to determine course approval. Social workers will receive 12 continuing education clock hours in participating in this course.

MARYLAND and the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA SOCIAL WORKERS:

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) is approved by the Maryland and Washing ton, DC Boards of Social Work Examiners to sponsor Category I continuing education programs

LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS:

Chesapeake Beach Professional Seminars (CBPS) has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 5763. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. CBPS is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
