Introduction to Sutta Studies and the Dhammapada with Lorene Jabola, PhD

begins Monday, January 14, 2019

This six-week series is designed to deepen understanding of Buddhist teachings through the wisdom practice of study. An introduction to skillful means (tools) for study will be applied to the investigation of written teachings, specifically the Dhammapada.

The Dhammapada, a collection of verses attributed to the Buddha, is considered “one of the masterpieces of early Buddhist literature” (Thanissaro Bhikkhu). Integrated throughout the series is the practice of mindfulness and compassion.

Intentions for Learning:

  • Engage directly with fundamental Buddhist teachings through reading
  • Develop study skills that will assist and support investigation of the Suttas
  • Integrate wisdom practice with heart practices
  • Cultivate awareness of internal and external conditions that impact wisdom and/or heart practice

Dates: (All classes Monday, 7:00pm to 8:30pm)

January 14, 28; February 11, 25; March 11, 25
