Women At The Helm - because you never know when you will find yourself suddenly in command.

The Whitefish Chain Yacht Club and Lake Bertha Boatworks are pleased to announce: Boating Safety Instruction classes women - All too often the owner and captain of a boat are one and the same (male) boater who monopolizes time at the helm. This leaves too large a percentage of (female) boaters untrained, inexperienced and ill equipped to handle emergencies on the water. Our class “Women At The Helm” is designed to provide the peace of mind you can handle the boat should the captain of a vessel becomes incapacitated or fall overboard.

This boating basics and safety class is designed for those not generally at the helm. You will learn about your vessel, including nomenclature and operating principles beginning with starting the engine. Also included are descriptions of what causes boating mishaps and how to minimize them, basic boat handling and what equipment should be on board.

Literature contains many horror stories about a passenger, who does not know how to start the engine, watching in horror as a strong wind blows the boat away faster than a captain who has fallen overboard can swim. Misfortunes occurs in seconds, and you have the rest of your life to be grateful that you knew what to do because you were prepared.

The class will be Friday June 21 5:30 PM - 7:30PM and repeated Friday July 12 at the same time at Lake Bertha Boatworks.
