Spey/Two Hand 101 - TH101 - January 12th, 2019 (10am to 12pm)

It's time to swing flies for Steelhead and there's no better way to do it than with a 2 handed rod. Spey and Switch rods are a great tool that can give you the edge when casting flies in tight cover, or with restricted back casting for anadromous fish like Steelhead and Salmon. They are a pleasure to cast, and many anglers put their single handed rods away, and use Spey/Switch rods as their "Go To" equipment for steelheading. Come down to and learn the basics of this useful casting style with us for FREE.

This class will cover the proper fundamentals of Spey/Two Hand casting regarding anchoring, sweeping, and delivering your cast from both sides of the river (upstream and downstream of your stance in the water). We teach the TH101 on a lawn with "grass leaders"; so no waders are needed. We will orient you to cast like you are at the water; so you will have the skills covered to then go to the river and feel comfortable doing this all on your own.

A basic fly fishing background and single hand casting fundamentals are required.

Please refrain from registering for this class if you have already taken a Spey/Two Hand 101 from Orvis Portland over the last several years. These classes are in high demand and are designed to be taken once. We offer one on one private instruction for anyone who has taken this class before and is looking for more advanced Spey/Two Hand casting lessons.
