Course Description:

Dentists prescribe and administer medications to patients who are already taking many medications prescribed by medical practitioners.  The pharmacologic knowledge we need to maintain has become increasingly more complex and dificult to find time to review.  This course will address this issue and result in greater patient safety. 

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the proper pharmacologic prescribing and drug disposal for dental practitioners
2. Review drugs used for pain and anxiety including local anesthetics and sedatives
3. Identify drugs used for dental emergencies
4. Discuss common medications prescirbed to patients and their potentail interactions in dentistry

Speaker Information:

Dr. Marvin Leventer received his dental degree from the University of Maryland in 1990.  He then completed a two-year General Practice Residency, and a two-year Dental Anesthesiology Residency at the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in New York.  He is a Diplomat of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.  He is also a member of the American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists, and the Academy of General Dentistry.  Dr. Leventer is committed to providing patients access to dental care without pain or anxiety. 

Dr. Leventer stated in private practice in 1995.  He became a part-time clinical instructor in Dental Anesthesiolgy at the University of Maryland Dental School in 1997 and in 2009 joined the faculty as a full-time Assistant Professor.  In addition to teaching and providing anesthesia, he provides general dentistry within the dental school's faculty practice and at the University of Maryland Hospital in the OR.  He has lectured for many dental groups on the use of anesthesia in dentistry.  

Continuing Education:

Chesapeake Health Education Program, Inc. is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider.  ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.  ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, now does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry.  

Chesapeake Health Education Program, Inc. designates this activity for 6.0 ADA continuing education credits.

Evaluation and Certificate:

All attendees are required to sign-in in order to receive credits.  Sign-in sheets will be available at the registration desk for up to 30 minutes prior to the start of the program and 30 minutes after the start of the program. 

An evaluation will be emailed to you within two business days of the program's completion.  Once you complete and submit this evaluation, your certificate will automatically generate to be saved or printed. 

Registration Information:

VAMHCS Employee (with ID): $35 prior to 3/30/19; $45 starting 3/30/19
Dentist - Community Rate: $195 prior to 3/30/19; $205 starting 3/30/19
Hygienist - Community Rate: $159 prior to 3/30/19; $169 starting 3/30/19
Assistant/Staff - Community Rate: $145 prior to 3/30/19; $155 starting 3/30/19

Prices increase two weeks prior to the program date as indicated above.  Registration will close end of day on April 9th; however, we do accept onsite registration.

Registration includes a continental breakfast starting at 7:30am, and a full buffet lunch.

If you are registering as a VAMHCS Employee, you will be required to show proof of current employment via government issued VA ID badge at check in.  If you do not have your badge, you will not be granted access to the program or you can choose to pay the regular rate.
