A forum of intervention techniques and strategies for challenging situations involving individuals with Autism and Mental Health Issues
This training will serve as a follow up to the Overwhelming Moments training that Cyndy McKinley provided in Spring 2018. Overwhelming Moments (Part II) will provide more in-depth training in intervention techniques for specific challenging situations while supporting individuals with Autism and Mental Health issues. Such as:
- Increasing motivation and engagement, what can staff/ providers say or do to alleviate fears and foster participation?
- Working through perseveration, how to address this when it interferes with a person participating in a group environment.
- Preventing and responding to dysregulation in public situations.
- Managing situations when a person leaves a community activity and/or group event.
- Improving dating skills, replacing ineffective and/or problematic dating strategies (staring, persisting in asking for dates after a no response) with better strategies.
- Working with families, best practices and challenging situations
Who Should Attend: DDS Autism Coordinators and Supervisors, DMH Case Managers and Supervisors, DDS and DMH Providers
