The 2019 DDS Speakers Series presents:

Overwhelming Moments, Part II, Western Region

with Cynthia McKinley
Mental Health Trainer and Consultant

A forum of intervention techniques and strategies for challenging situations involving individuals with Autism and Mental Health Issues

This training will serve as a follow up to the Overwhelming Moments training that Cyndy McKinley provided in Spring 2018.  Overwhelming Moments (Part II) will provide more in-depth training in intervention techniques for specific challenging situations while supporting individuals with Autism and Mental Health issues.  Such as:

  • Increasing motivation and engagement, what can staff/ providers say or do to alleviate fears and foster participation?
  • Working through perseveration, how to address this when it interferes with a person participating in a group environment.
  • Preventing and responding to dysregulation in public situations.
  • Managing situations when a person leaves a community activity and/or group event.
  • Improving dating skills, replacing ineffective and/or problematic dating strategies (staring, persisting in asking for dates after a no response) with better strategies.
  • Working with families, best practices and challenging situations

Who Should Attend:  DDS Autism Coordinators and Supervisors, DMH Case Managers and Supervisors, DDS and DMH Providers
