Driving Directions 

This workshop will provide an understanding of common neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents, such as ADHD, ASD, Tourette, Semantic Pragmatic Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, and other learning disabilities. Dr. Rostain will address the challenges in assessing and treating these disorders and the most effective interventions, including medication, behavior management, social skills, family support and school-based interventions.

Workshop Objectives

At the end of this activity, the learner will be able to

  • Describe common neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents
  • State the challenges in assessing and treating childhood neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Discuss effective interventions for children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disorders

Presenter: Anthony L. Rostain, M.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and is a past President of the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders. His clinical focus is ‘lifespan neurodevelopmental psychiatry,’ which includes patients of all ages with a Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Tourette Syndrome, Learning Disabilities (verbal and nonverbal), and related social learning disorders. He treats patients at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and at Penn Medicine Behavioral Health where he is Medical Director of the Adult Development Disorders Unit, which includes the Adult ADHD Treatment and Research Program and the Adult Social Learning Disorders Program. He is also the Co-Director of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry Program. Dr Rostain's research interests focus on improving clinical outcomes for patients with neuropsychiatric disorders of all ages. He has co-authored two books on adult ADHD, entitled “The Adult ADHD Tool Kit: Using CBT to Facilitate Coping Inside and Out” and “Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD: An Integrative Psychosocial and Medical Approach.”

Continuing Education Credits

Three contintuing education credits will be offered for PA Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, NBCC Counselors, and educators under Act 48.

NBCC: Foundations Community Partnership (FCP) is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.

Psychologists: Foundations Community Partnership is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education to psychologists. FCP main- tains responsibility for this program and content.

PA Social Workers: PA State Board accepts APA and NBCC approval for SW, MFT, and LPC.

Educators: Application has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for three Act 48 Continuing Education Credits.
