Parent Workshop: Reflection by an Adult Adoptee on Being Raised by a Same-Sex Couple 

Barker is pleased to provide current and prospective adoptive parents with a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from an adult adoptee raised by a same-sex couple. Anthony Hynes, author of the book "The Son with Two Moms," will present reflections and memories from his childhood as the black son of two white mothers. Topics to be discussed include:

  • Earliest recollections of being part of a non-traditional family
  • Responding to questions from others
  • Birth family response to having child raised by a same-sex couple
  • The experience of being a transracial adoptee raised by two white mothers

Fee:               $35 per person/$60 per couple

Presentor: Anthony Hynes is the author of "The Son with Two Moms." He is a passionate advocate for families like his own, and serves on the board of Rainbow Families, which advocates for hte rights of LBGTQ families. He is currently a PhD student in Language, Literacy and Culture at the University of Maryland, where he received an MA degree in Applied Psychology. His thesis was entitled "The Psychological Well-Being of the Child within the Same Sex Household."
