Advanced Issues in Family Law Cases Involving Domestic Violence

This CLE is for attorneys who serve on ODVN's panel, who are considering serving and legal aid attorneys in Ohio. CLE credit is pending with the Supreme Court of Ohio for 6 total hours including 2.5 professional conduct hours. Lunch is included in your registration fee of $40.00 Vegetarian options will be available. If you have other dietary restrictions, please contact Nancy Grigsby, nancyg@odvn.org before February 15. About the event: This course will help participants better understand how trauma impacts survivors of family violence and their ability to participate in family law litigation; how domestic violence dynamics and tactics of abusers impact family law representation of victims; factors in domestic violence cases which indicate a higher risk for subsequent serious injury or homicide; and emerging models and strategies to help courts understand these cases with an emphasis on the development of safer parenting time orders and improving access to justice. The course will explore ways attorneys can and ethically must adapt a traditional family law practice to account for this information for all clients, regardless of background or status, and use the Domestic Violence & Allocation of Parental Rights and Responsibilities guide from the Supreme Court of Ohio as a tool in litigation. |
