Erin A. Kierce, RDH, BA, MS, MPH

Course Description:

Dental healthcare providers (DHCP) are occupationally exposed to bloodborne pathogens during the performance of their clinical responsibilities. Standards have been developed at the federal and state levels to help protect clinicians against the transmission of potentially infectious agents. This course will provide a comprehensive review of clinical compliance as it relates to the regulations established and governed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for dental practices and providers. The speaker will detail the mandatory requirements that dental offices must perform in order to be fully compliant, including post-exposure management, hand hygiene, general safety, and hazard communications.

All members of the dental team are responsible for maintaining privacy and ensuring the confidentiality of protected information. This course will explain federal HIPAA mandates, discuss the enforcement of privacy and electronic records integrity, and review the consequences of HIPAA violations.
