Lifetime prevalence of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is nearly 9% in the U.S. While PTSD is commonly associated with military combat and war exposure, it can occur from experiences involving traumatic accidents, life-threatening illness, physical and sexual abuse and natural disasters. This seminar will discuss the diagnostic criteria for PTSD and other considerations in the formulation of a diagnosis with special focus on current, valid and reliable assessment tools (specifically, the PDS-5 and PSSI-5). Emotional processing theory and prolonged exposure therapy for the treatment of PTSD will also be presented.

Sandy Capaldi, PsyD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and the associate director for the Center for Treatment and Study of Anxiety at Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She has a variety of clinical experiences with patient populations ranging from children to older adults. Dr. Capaldi specializes in Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) for PTSD, Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for OCD, and cognitive-behavioral treatment for trichotillomania, excoriation disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, specific phobias, and generalized anxiety. Dr. Capaldi receiver her undergraduate degree in psychology at Temple University, master’s degree in clinical psychology at MCP Hahnemann University and completed her doctoral studies in clinical psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. Brook Lane solely is responsible for all aspects of the program. This program will provide 6 clock hours; partial credit will not be awarded.
Social Workers: Brook Lane Health Services is an approved sponsor of the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for continuing education credits for licensed social workers in Maryland. This program will provide 6.0 credit hours of Category I continuing education; partial credit will not be awarded.
Psychologists: The Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists will accept continuing education hours provided by Brook Lane, an approved CE sponsor by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
Other Healthcare Professionals and Attendees: A certificate of completion noting the number of educational/contact hours will be provided for other disciplines to allow attendees to apply for CE credit as an individual.

CANCELLATION POLICY: A $10 processing fee will apply for all cancellations. To receive a refund, cancellations must be made in writing and received no later than one week prior to the seminar. No refunds/credits will be made after the one-week date or for no shows on the day of the program.
