Commonwealth Fund Teleconference: Making Health Care Price Transparency Work For Consumers

Last week, President Trump’s State of the Union address called on Congress to make health care and prescription drug prices transparent to consumers.  This comes on the heels of a new rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which requires hospitals to post prices they charge for their services in an electronic format.

Join leading experts for a briefing and Q&A for media and policymakers on the potential and limitations of price transparency initiatives in our health care system.  Specifically, speakers will discuss the likely impact of current policies and how future policies can be crafted to ensure price transparency serves as a tool that empowers patients to make better decisions and enhances competition in the health care marketplace.

During the teleconference, experts will address key issues such as:

  • The impact of price transparency on health care consumers.
  • Lessons on making health care prices meaningful.  What is the role of quality data?
  • What’s needed for consumers to benefit from price information?
  • Federal and state options to promote meaningful price transparency.

WHEN: Wednesday, February 13th, from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
