Central West LHIN BSO -
Geriatric Development Day

The Central West LHIN in collaboration with the Central West BSO Network is offering a professional development opportunity for long-term care homes and community partners within the region. Team members supporting people living with dementia are eligible to participate in a 1-day LIVING the Dementia Journey (LDJ) workshop. This opportunity is sponsored by Dufferin Oaks Home for Aged, Holland Christian Homes (Faith Manor), Hawthorn Woods Care Community, Schlegel Villages (The Village of Sandalwood Park).

About the Workshop

LIVING the Dementia Journey (LDJ) is an award-winning, evidence-informed training program for those who support people living with dementia.

The LDJ program:

  • Increases understanding of dementia and provides a new perspective on the experience of living with it
  • Applies a person-centred approach to providing individualized support
  • Enhances skills in relationship-building to support individuals with compassion and respect
  • Shares strategies to recognize, interpret, and respond to personal expressions
  • Addresses ways to tackle boredom, loneliness, and helplessness by creating opportunities for meaning, purpose, and growth

By participating in this workshop, participants will gain awareness and understanding that changes not only the way they view dementia, but the way they support people living with it.

The LDJ program is brought to you by the Murray Alzheimer Research and Education Program (MAREP) and the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA). To learn more about LDJ, visit: www.livingdementia.ca
