This one-day training geared towards recovery coaches and substance misuse professionals will provide participants with basic and updated information about HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted Diseases (STDs). Information covered will include:

  • risk factors 
  • modes of transmission 
  • signs and symptoms 
  • prevention 
  • the relationship between HIV and stigma 

This training will explore the relationship between substance use and HIV/AIDs as well as the correlation between mental health and HIV/AIDS. Additionally, this training will emphasize the benefits of counseling clients on the benefits of HIV testing.

Recovery Coach participants will learn and understand the following:

Goals & Objectives

  • Foundational knowledge about HIV/AIDS
  • How HIV is transmitted
  • Signs and symptoms of HIV/AIDs
  • The process and benefits of HIV testing
  • Techniques for teaching harm-reduction strategies to people who have co-occurring mental health conditions
  • How to assess a client’s risk for acquiring HIV/AIDS
  • HIV/AIDS prevention
  • The correlation between mental health and HIV/AIDS
  • The inter-relationship of HIV and other STDs
  • The relationship between HIV/AIDS and Substance Users
  • The process and benefits of HIV testing

This training has been pre-approved by the NH Board of Licensing for Alcohol & Other Drug Use Professionals; 6 CEU's will be awarded.
