This webinar will provide a recap of the 2^nd National Summit on Rural Road Safety: Bridging the Gap. If you were not able to join us in Savannah, GA in December 2018, then this webinar is for you! Come hear an overview of the most important takeaways from this action-oriented event with interactive sessions to assist attendees on their Road to Zero.

Webinar Outcomes
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

Summarize why rural road safety should be a priority.
Identify the successes in “Moving Rural America” since summit #1.
Restate the resources for implementing safety measures at home (i.e., Doubling down on things that work).
Understand the key takeaways from the 10 concurrent sessions.
List the next steps and action items.

Target Audience
This training is directed towards a very broad safety audience including, but not limited to, law enforcement, planners, engineers, first responders, elected officials, public health, tourism agencies, and safety culture experts. Participants should have some basic familiarity with transportation safety.

Course Presenters

Jaime Sullivan, P.E., Center Manager, National Center for Rural Road Safety

Jaime is a Research Engineer for the Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University focusing on safety and operations research. She is the manager for both the National Center for Rural Road Safety and the Public Lands Transportation Fellows Program. Jaime is also the principal investigator for NCHRP 20-122 Rural Transportation Issues: Research Roadmap. Jaime received her Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UMass Amherst and Master’s degree in transportation engineering from Texas A&M University.

Hillary Isebrands, Roadway Safety Engineer, FHWA Resource Center, Safety and Design Technical Service Team,

Hillary Isebrands has contributed to the transportation profession for over 20 years. She has expertise as a roadway design and safety engineer as well as a traffic engineer and transportation researcher. Hillary is currently a Senior Roadway Safety Engineer and Team Leader with FHWA, Resource Center (RC), Safety and Design TST. As a part of this 16 person National Team, she provides safety and design technical assistance, deploys current design and safety technologies and provides project reviews to FHWA’s internal and external customers. She specializes in roundabouts and local and rural road safety and design. Hillary also oversees the National Center for Rural Road Safety, a MAP-21 Center of Excellence. Prior to working with FHWA, Hillary conducted research at the Iowa State University, Center for Transportation Research and Education. She performed research in the areas of rural roundabouts and intersections as well as pedestrian and traffic safety. Additionally, she served as a technical advisor to the Iowa DOT on roundabouts and facilitated and conducted roundabout educational presentations and seminars for the public and local government agencies. Earlier in her career, Hillary was a project manager and transportation engineer for an engineering consulting firm in Wisconsin. Hillary is a professional engineer in Iowa and Wisconsin, a National Highway Institute (NHI) Certified Instructor and has her BS, MS and PhD in Civil Engineering. Hillary is a member and Secretary of the TRB Standing Committee on Roundabouts, past member of the TRB Standing Committee on Geometric Design, and Past Chair of the ITE Roundabout Task Force.
