WELCOME to the official webpage of the 8th Annual Conference: Breast Cancer & African Americans (BCAA)!  The Stanford Cancer Institute (SCI)  is pleased to host a special community event focused on eliminating breast cancer disparities in African American populations in the Greater SF Bay Area and surrounding communities through the dissemination of high quality, timely and culturally-tailored health information and resources. Join us for an informative dialogue with clinicians, health professionals, researchers, cancer survivors, caregivers, advocates, and other key stakeholders in the African American community. We have a wonderful lineup of expert speakers and sessions covering the spectrum of breast health and cancer including, but not limited to breast self-awareness; breast cancer risk; early detection; nutrition; physical activity; treatment and clinical trials research; survivorship; and advocacy. 

 The target audience for this event is African American women (age 18+) of any health status, as well as cancer patients and survivors.  In addition, we welcome attendance by family members, caregivers, friends, community advocates, clinicians, health care professionals, and researchers.



We are honored to have a special keynote lecture by Lisa Newman, MD, MPH, FACS, FASCO, an internationally renowned breast surgeon and researcher who is the Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery and Medical Director of the International Center for the Study of Breast Cancer Subtypes at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York Presbyterian Hospital Network! Dr. Newman is the lead of multidisciplinary breast cancer programs and provides the finest, most compassionate care for women and men affected by breast cancer. 
Dr. Newman is a champion of global health and has held leadership positions on several national committees, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women, the National Institutes of Health's Clinical Trials Advisory Committee, the National Institute on Minority Health and Disparities' Advisory Council, and is currently on JAMA Surgery's editorial board.

There is NO COST TO ATTEND this event, but registration (online or by mail only) is requiredDeadline to register is May 6 pending seating availability. Registration will include a light breakfast, lunch, keynote lecture, health exhibits/resources, entertainment, networking opportunities, and much, much more!  We ask that you please do not bring children or minors under the age of 18 and non-service pets to this event due to limited seating.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be available for Registered Nurses, and other health professionals including Social Workers and Community Health Education Specialists (CHES) provided by our partners, the Bay Area Black Nurses' Association - 4 CE BNA provider #9053, BRN. To receive CEUs, you must be registered for the event and attend the entire program to receive full CE credit.
