We know that trauma and addiction are prevalent in our society today. We are also beginning to discover the link between traumatic experiences and the disease of addiction. So many of the clients and populations we serve are particularly at risk for experiencing single incident and complex trauma that can ultimately drive the development of addiction; in the shape of maladaptive coping strategies intended to sooth the far-reaching impacts of the traumatic experiences they have faced. In this insightful and informative training, you will gain knowledge about the brain, how trauma alters brain development and function, how the disease of addiction changes the brain, and how traumatic experiences are linked to the development of addiction. Additionally, you will receive instruction on cutting edge treatment strategies, including EMDR, mindfulness, and resilience building interventions that work with the thought and non-thought regions of the brain to address addiction and facilitate positive trauma resolution so those we serve can go on to create and lead meaningful and productive lives.
