Rescue and Jessica: A Life Changing Friendship (and Birthday Party for Rescue!)

Tuesday, May 14 from 6:30 to 8pm in the Lebowitz Room at the Morse Institute Library

For the whole community (book is geared to children ages 5-9)

Meet co-authors Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes, a married couple who were both injured during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. They will be joined by the star of their book and ASPCA Dog of the Year, RESCUE!  Learn about the role of service dogs to help people with physical disabilities and the amazing things that people and dogs can accomplish together through hard work, perseverance, and partnership.

The authors will read aloud from Rescue and Jessica: A Life Changing Friendship and take questions from the audience. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and the authors will sign books for attendees. You can even get Rescue’s “pawtograph” with your copy!

ASL interpretation will be provided at this event. The Morse Institute Library is an accessible building and accessible seating is available in the Lebowitz Meeting Hall. If you need other specific accommodations, please contact lparkermoldover@sparkkindness.org

We are at near capacity for this event. If you try to register, but are unable to due to the size of your group or if registration has closed, please email lparkermoldover@sparkkindness.org to be added to the waitlist. We will contact you by 4pm to let you know if there is space.

Supporting the Work of Service Dogs

Rescue & Jessica is proudly published by Candlewick Press in Somerville, Massachusetts. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Rescue & Jessica will benefit NEADS, National Education for Assistance Dog Services, a non-profit organization that was established in 1976 and based in Princeton, Massachusetts. Their Service Dogs become an extension of their handlers and bring freedom, physical autonomy and relief from social isolation to their human partners who are deaf or have a disability. To make a donation to support the life changing work of NEADS, go HERE. Thank you!
