GARDEN STATE CHAPTER OF ASHI

2019 Spring Seminar

March 14, 2019

 REGISTRATION BEGINS AT 2:00 PM

SEMINAR BEGINS AT 2:30 PM

INCLUDES 3 of the REQUIRED NJ CEU's and 3 additional CEU's**!

Please come early to visit our Affiliate Members and other vendors!

ALL New Jersey Home inspector licenses will expire on April 30, 2019.  Most licensees must fulfill 40 hours of continuing education which includes 3 hours of ethics, 3 hours of home inspector regulation, and 3 hours of report writing.  This will be the last opportunity to obtain the 3 hours of report writing at this Chapter!

NOTE- YOU MUST PRE-REGISTER for this event!!  If you pay at the door, it's going to cost more- no exceptions!  Paying early will ensure enough seating for all attendees and will avoid disruption of having to add more tables.  We never limit the number of attendees and our facility can manage large groups if we are prepared for it!   AFFILIATE MEMBERS may now pay on line through the registration portal as well!

All registrations include a hot buffet style dinner and there will be time for networking and talking with our vendors.  Most vendors bring a door prize so be sure to bring business cards and, since we are so close to St. Patrick's Day, maybe a four leaf clover for some luck!

Mike Rostescu, ASHI Assistant Executive Director, will also be on hand to answer any membership questions and give us an update on new programs ASHI is providing for it's members.

PART 1:  CSST Gas Piping

This topic has become one of our most requested based on input from seminar attendees. So... here it is!  Howard Miller of Altherm, Inc. will be presenting on Gastite CSST piping systems.  Howard is Territory Manager for Altherm and is certified by Gastite to train installers.  Howard has been providing education for installers for many years.  His experience dates back to before 2006 when he last presented at our Chapter.  He will cover new products available, proper installation methods, protection of CSST, the ever popular, but often misunderstood, bonding issue, and many other aspects of CSST piping.  Upon completion, you will be a certified Gasttie installer!  Yes, we know you won't be running out to pipe a house, but the certification will give you some credibility when making your case when you find an improper or unsafe installation.

PART 2: Report Writing

This session will provide the 3 required continuing education credits for report writing.  This session will be interactive with attendees which should help reduce post dinner dozing!  A review of the regulations as they pertain to home inspection reports will be discussed.  Also, a review of consumer complaints adjudicated by the Home Inspector Advisory Committee will be discussed (not to worry- no names will be provided!) Then a discussion will be led on different types of reporting methods which include commercially available ones, handwritten ones, or self created ones.  Finally, we will openly discuss best reporting practices for common, and maybe not so common, defects.  And as everyone knows, that will lead to some spirited discussion!  This session will be moderated by Chapter President Ernie Borsellino and Past Presidents Jason Mitchell and Kevin Vargo.

**at the time of this publicaiton, all materials have been submitted to the NJHIAC for approval.  This will be updated as we receive confirmation of approval.
