2019 Supporting Parish Leaders Workshop in York-Scarborough

Thank you for taking on a leadership role in your parish. In order to help you navigate your new role we are holding a half-day workshop to provide you with  information that will help you do your job. 

Supporting Parish Leaders Workshops aim to meet the following objectives:

• To review parish governance on key areas of knowledge expected of Churchwardens and Parish Leaders.
• To increase understanding and overall comfort level to support parish in their positions.
• To provide opportunities to connect less experienced attendees with knowledgeable and more experienced attendees.
• To meet and network with key Diocesan staff to learn when and how to access resources as required.
• To provide time for networking of attendees.
• To answer questions that participants might have.

We are taking a new approach this year. Changes include:

• Pre-Arrival Meeting for New Participants – 15 minutes before the meeting starts to introduce new participants to the Bishop and key staff
• Structured break – allowing for networking opportunities
• Name Badges – that identify participants' roles at their parish and whether they are new to their roles or an experienced participant.
• Calling Cards – participants will be encouraged to bring their business card or fill in a blank calling card at the meeting to hand out.  The idea behind this is to create a buddy system (phone a friend) and opportunities for mentorship.

This year we are asking that parishes send leadership team members who are new to the position or have not attended one of these workshops before. This includes churchwardens, deputy churchwardens, treasurers and parish administrators.

All clergy are invited to attend this workshop but especially clergy who are new to the job, the parish and the area. We also strongly encourage clergy with new parish leaders to attend with them.
