Hazardous Materials in Civil presented by Michael Harrett
Hazardous materials assessments are synonymous with buildings, and the evaluation of hazardous materials in civil work is often overlooked. As the hazardous materials are typically concealed in the infrastructure or subsurface, assessment and compliance presents unique challenges.
The presentation will discuss historical asbestos, metals, PCB and chemical hazards associated with civil work, including examples of unexpected discoveries, and the regulations involving them.
Construction Act from a Subcontractor’s Perspective presented by Warren Griffiths
The presentation will cover a review of Prompt Payment coming into effect on October 1, 2019 including changes to holdback provisions, mandatory surety bonding on public procurement and how to claim against a General Contractors bond.
Building a Community - Women in Our Industry presented by Catherine Mills
Building on the announcement of the Women’s Committee with the Environmental Information Association, the discussion will focus on the changing landscape, mentorship, encouragement and creating a community for the women of our industry.
Standards for Trauma Scene Clean Up presented by Lee Senter
The presentation will provide an overview of the IICRC S540 Standard for Trauma and Crime Scene clean up which includes a procedural document outlining the methods to triage the scene and its contents, safe work practices required to do the work, post remediation evaluation methods and transportation and disposal requirements. The challenges Ontario remediators face to stay in compliance with this standard will also be discussed.
