Great Neighbors:

Philadelphia City Archives

& Yards Brewing Co.

Within the past year, two important Philadelphia “institutions” relocated to the 500 block of Spring Garden Street.

The Philadelphia City Archives is the repository for all sorts of maps, documents, photographs and genealogical records dating back to the city’s founding.  The staff will provide a free tour and introduction to the archives, including a Women’s History Month special exhibit and samples of resources available to the public.  After the tour you will have time to use their tablets and earphones to explore an interactive two-room mural “Charting a Path to Resistance,” which examines issues such as housing discrimination, “redlining” and related issues based on documents in the archives.  For more on the Archives, click here and then also here.

The new Yards Brewing Company is next door to PCA at 500 Spring Garden Street.  For those who wish, we will meet in the spacious dining area for food and drink after the archives tour.  Click here to see Craig LeBan’s recent review.

Both facilities are handicap accessible, with PCA using a lift for transport from street level to the archive rooms.  Street parking is available on 6th St (free) and 7th (metered); Yards has its own lot for their customers.
