Enkindling the Essence of Waldorf Early Childhood Education
with Laurie Clark, Dana Williams (Eurythmy)
A renewed approach towards deepening our understanding of today’s child.
Teachers are encountering perplexing behaviors, sensory challenges and social difficulties from many "profoundly interesting" children in their care. These children are bringing us many questions to contemplate that require teachers to invigorate their inner mobility and orientation in order to meet them. A practical format of child contemplation will be explored that is especially designed for early childhood teachers and will provide guidelines to deepen and widen our understanding of the contemporary child.
We will also experience circle adventures that have consciously chosen movements to help integrate and mature the child's sensory system. Meeting the child's sensory needs will be enhanced through exploring practical ways of setting up a classroom to support neurological development through movement opportunities.
Workshops in the afternoon will include a discussion on the spiritual foundation and therapeutic value of fairytales and developmental readiness for first grade.
Laurie Clark has had the privilege of being a Waldorf early educator since 1978 and currently teaches at the Denver Waldorf School. She incorporates her therapeutic training into all aspects of the classroom and is in continual research through observation and constant engagement with the young child. The deep question of how to meet the children of today, and exploring their needs in practical applications, lies at the heart of her work. Laurie mentors teachers, is a frequent conference presenter and has co-authored two books with Nancy Blanning on therapeutic movement for young children.
