FAIRY TALES AND SILK MARIONETTES FOR THE YOUNG CHILD

with Rena Osmer

  • How do young children experience their surroundings and why should we tell them fairytales?
  • What is the wisdom hidden in the fantasy of the fairytale?
  • Can the powerful images of the fairytale prevent soul impoverishment, heal?
  • How do you choose different stories for different ages?

This course will explore these questions through presentations, exercises and discussions each morning.  Students will also create a silk marionette puppet, participate in the building of a stage set, practice gestures that enliven their chosen character, and finally create a silk marionette puppetry performance of a fairytale.

Rena Osmer has been a Waldorf Educator since 1985 and has been training Waldorf Early Childhood teachers for over 20 years. Rena is a founding teacher of Sea Star School, in Boca Raton, Florida.   She holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Antioch New England and is the former Director of the Early Childhood Department at Rudolf Steiner College in California.  Rena currently teaches the Morning Glory Kindergarten class at Sea Star School.
