With generous support from Likarda, BioKansas, MECO, SP Scientific and Sani-Matic, the Overland Park office of IPS hosts Animal Health Technology Training Day. This Spring Educational Event is focused on some of the most cutting-edge technologies used in the animal health industry, including a keynote address on the state of the animal health industry in the corridor.

Who should attend: Animal health industry executives, pharmaceutical production facilities engineers, operations and maintenance engineers and laboratory owners and facilities managers.

The multibillion dollar animal health industry continues to thrive as companion animals become a large part of the family dynamic. Furthermore, as global demand for protein-based food rises with increasing populations, animal health plays an increasingly important role in protecting our global food supplies. Kansas City is at the heart of the animal health industry and companies located in the region shape this industry. We will discuss an overview of the industry including trends, opportunities, and new innovations as the industry changes to meet demands.

High containment labs are complex research facilities with BSL-3 and higher classification. The presentation will discuss their engineering and construction challenges. The presentation will make a case for pre-engineered, turnkey and modular solution with pharmaceutical underpinnings as the safer, smarter and more sustainable approach for these complex facilities. It will demonstrate a product platform using a flex ABSL-3 module, in which components are added or subtracted to achieve variation in complexity for BSL-3, BSL-4 and ABSL-4 labs, while accommodating varying lab sizes.

John Erdner, SP Scientific

This training will provide an understanding of Lyophilizer applications in animal health and review system design considerations for specifying your system. It will include a review of the Lyophilizer system cycles, loading and unloading options, stoppering, mechanical systems, and CIP/SIP. This session will give an overview of how redundancies provide more uptime and streamline maintenance activities.

Darren Haney, Midwest Region Manager, MECO

The training will focus on understanding the criteria involving the selection of Vapor Compression Stills to produce USP WFI vs. other methods. The session will also review VC WFI feed water system design, and important considerations involving unit installation. It will conclude with a summary of operating characteristics and maintenance.

This training will provide a basic understanding of the Cleaning In Place mechanisms (CIP) utilized in the pharmaceutical plant environment. Topics to be covered include:

  • Time-Action-Chemical-Temperature requirements
  • Bench scale chemical coupon studies
  • CIP system designs
  • CIP spray device technologies
