Keynote Speakers

Sunday - Letters to the Young Gifted

Lisa Van Gemert, the Gifted Guru

What do gifted adults wish they could share with the rising gifted generation? If they could go back and do it all over again, what traits and paradigms would they wish they had?

Explore the seven pillars that create or support healthy social, emotional and cognitive development in the gifted.

Find out what a library in Baghdad and Olympic athletes can teach our gifted children. Learn what it means to turn your own tide, the role of honor, and the importance of gathering a team (no matter how unlikely).

Lisa will also present three breakout sessions:

  • Addressing Youth Suicide - This session confronts the complicated issues of student suicide, empowering educators with the information they need to appropriately discuss the issue with gifted students at various ages.
  • Perfectionism - Learn what perfectionism looks like in gifted kids, its potentially damaging effects, and then take a deep dive into the big ideas and strategies for turning this terrible master into a compliant servant.
  • Underachievement - Explore exactly why our gifted youth struggle with risk avoidance and underachievement. Take away practical ideas, and maybe even a little paradigm shift.

About Lisa Van Gemert:  Using a combination of neuropsychology, pedagogy, experience, humor, technology and sheer fun, Lisa Van Gemert shares best practices in education with audiences around the world. Monday - Creating Schools that Kindle the Inner Fires of Learning

Ginger Lewman

If we believe that students should be ignited by the flame of learning inside school, then we need to find what ignites their passions. In this session, participants will learn how to create intellectual sparks with passion-based learning and how that shifts the focus of learning in the classroom from teacher-centered to student-centered. Participants are also introduced to the concept of “Optimal Ambiguity” as a prime state for empowered learning.

Ginger will also present three breakout sessions:

The Arts as a Hub of Engaged Learning in a High-Stakes World

•The Future is Here: Flying Cars, Industry Automation, and Education

•Don’t Land In Your Parent’s Basement!

About Ginger Lewman: Ginger an education consultant and keynote speaker with ESSDACK, a non-profit education service center based in Hutchinson Kansas. She specializes in Project/Problem Based Learning, makerspaces, emerging technologies, technology integration, and gifted & high ability learners.
