The AIAA SoCal ASAT Conference brings together seasoned and new engineers, researchers, leaders, managers, and students and provides a forum to exchange ideas, review achievements, and discuss the future of aerospace in the area.  The AIAA Orange County Section will highlight their activities of the past year during the included buffet luncheon.  Members, as well as non-members, are welcome.

Featuring a Special Session on the Apollo Program


Presented by Larry Korb, Chuck Lowry, and Ed Smith, including an open forum discussion.

Throughout the entire Apollo program, Larry Korb was responsible for the selection and use of advanced materials, such as high-strength metals and thermal protection system materials.  He was key in the investigation of major program problems such as the Apollo 1 fire in 1967 and Apollo 13.

Chuck Lowry was Engineering Manager, responsible for the design and testing of many key Apollo systems, such as Docking, Parachutes, and Ordnance (explosive) systems.  He provided flight support for all missions including lunar landings, Skylab, and the joint mission with the USSR (ASTP).

Ed Smith was Apollo Chief Engineer through Command and Service Module design, testing, and all lunar landings.  He went on to become Chief Engineer and Program Manager of the Space Shuttle Orbiter Program.

The objective of the AIAA Southern California Aerospace Systems and Technology (SoCal ASAT) Conference is to bring together seasoned and new engineers, researchers, leaders, managers, scholars, and students and provide a forum to exchange new ideas, review achievements, and chart a new course for aerospace in the local area.  Come share your expertise and insights with other local professionals and tap this unprecedented resource.  If you are a student, this is an ideal opportunity to showcase your research, sharpen technical presentation skills, and meet professionals in the field.

Luncheon

The AIAA Orange County Section will highlight their activities during the past year and celebrate the achievements of some of our members during the included buffet luncheon.  Members, as well as non-members, are welcome.

Gohardani Presentation Award in Aeronautics and Astronautics

All presenters in a scheduled track are eligible for the Gohardani Presentation Award in Aeronautics and Astronautics, sponsored by the Springs of Dreams Corporation.  It is awarded to the speaker with the most exceptional all-around presentation, judged on content, organization, and delivery.  This monetary award winner(s) will be posted in the registration area right after the conference.
