Tuesday Match Race Drills

Oakcliff’s very popular match racing drills are run weekly onboard our Match 40s. Coached by Dawn Riley, Ethan Johnson, Ladi Oguntoyinbo, or one of our guest coaches or staff, this is a great way to  jump start your match racing.

Drils that we run help improve time and distance in the start box, mark rounding situation, killing penalties, boat-handling, and the difference between fleet racing rules and match racing rules.  Each sessions begins with a pre-brief at Oakcliff at 5:30 and ends with a de-brief where we go over the drills and and situations we encountered during them. Afterwards, many of us retire to a local pub before hopping on the train home.

Match racing requires advanced boat handling skills so these drills are designed for sailors who have already shown basic racing proficiency, preferably through our Wednesday night fleet coaching and racing or by resume. While no prior match racing experience is required, boat handling and trim skills are assumed.

You can come by yourself or bring friends, just make sure everyone registers! We mix and match the teams to match the evening’s drills.

Especially if this is your first Tuesday with us, please make sure your registration is completely filled out.

All participants must read and acknowledge the Oakcliff Sailing Center Safety Rules and Regulations.http://www.oakcliffsailing.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/OakcliffPolicies.pdf
