Woodland Pond @ New Paltz CEU Event

Please join Monroe Learning Network and Sunrise Medical Clinical Strategy & Education Manager, Angie Kiger for a half day of CEU Courses dedicated to educating clinicians on seating & positioning and power wheelchair base selection.

The morning will consist of two sessions: 1) Thinking Inside the Box and 2) All About That Base, totaling 4 Contact Hours/.4 CEU's upon event completion.

Thinking Inside the Box (2 Contact Hours/.2 CEU's): Many times, an individual has specific needs that require custom modifications of their seating system due to changes in the individual's orthopedic asymmetries or positioning. Customizations can be addressed during the ordering process or in the clinic on standard cushions and backs. This course will discuss modifications of standard cushions and backs.

All About That Base (2 Contact Hours/.2 CEU's)A power wheelchair has the potential to provide a client with independent mobility to increase independence with activities of daily living across various environments. One of the key selections the client and team of professionals involved in the provision process of a power wheelchair must make is the selection of the wheelchair base. In order to make the most appropriate choice to meet a client's specific needs, it is essential to have an understanding of the various technology and components that comprise a power wheelchair base. This educational seminar will provide participants with the opportunity to examine various aspects of power wheelchair bases such as drive wheel position, suspension, caster wheels, overall footprint, etc. Discussions will also include the potential benefits of each, areas of consideration, and examples of clinical applications.
