John Bradley, IBA Lobbyist

John Bradley, U.S. University of Texas (B.A.) University of Illinois (J.D.) John Bradley (born May 10, 1971) is a former Democratic member of the House of Rep, 117th District . John is currently serving his second year as IBA’s Contract Lobbyist in Springfield.

Don Craven, IBA Attorney

Craven concentrates on libel and First Amendment issues, access to government meetings and records, and the business issues of concern to newspapers. Mr. Craven has counseled executive directors and board members of the IPA, IBA, and INBA association activities, both legal and legislative. Craven answers IBA member questions to the IBA Legal Hotline.

Shawn Donilon, NAB

Shawn Donilon joined the NAB Government Relations department in 2013 and over the course of more than 6 years has worked closely on all TV and radio issues before the Congress, including video carriage, music licensing, tax, appropriations, and spectrum policy.  Donilon holds an undergraduate degree in economics from Duke University and a J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School.

Scott Flick, Pillsbury

Scott provides strategic counsel to media, programming, telecommunications and technology clients on transactional, regulatory, business, litigation, policy, IP and technology matters. He handles issues involving radio and TV stations; broadcast and cable networks; internet; media technologies; advertising; and program production and distribution.  

Dr. Will Miller

Dr. Will Miller's unique background as a professional standup comedian, television personality, psychotherapist, educator, and best-selling author of Refrigerator Rights, along with his five graduate degrees, make him a recognized authority on modern life and culture. He is an adjunct professor of Communication Ethics for Purdue University, the official psychotherapist for the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom radio show, and Police Chaplain in his Indiana community. 

Deborah Potter

Potter leads workshops for journalists in the United States and around the world, focusing on reporting and writing the news, social media, online and visual storytelling, and journalism ethics. 

 

Jeff Schmidt, RAB

As Senior Vice President of Professional Development, Jeff Schmidt oversees the professional development group across all of RAB's training services and works with the industry's leadership to continue to provide a professional development practice positioned to serve an evolving industry sales force focused on digital, solution based integrated marketing and sales efforts.  Jeff’s mission is to help you get better. Brad Seitter, TVB

As EVP of TVB’s local and national business development, Brad oversees TVB’s business development efforts across all 210 DMAs. Brad travels the country presenting directly to advertisers at the invitation of TVB member stations in group and one-on-one sessions. 

Derron Steenbergen, Swagger Institute

Derron Steenbergen is Chief Revenue Officer for Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation.  Commonwealth Broadcasting owns and operates 17 radio stations in Kentucky.  He is also President and Founder of the Swagger Institute, a sales and leadership training company.  Steenbergen has over 20 years of broadcast sales experience, beginning as a local direct rep and advancing through the ranks of sales management to his current position of CRO. 

Brian Wexler, TV

Wexler works with members to create category-specific presentations further establishing local broadcast television as the leading medium for advertisers and agencies to allocate their marketing dollars.  He also works closely with station account executives to promote eBusiness process efficiencies and provide training via webinars, webcasts and in-person meetings. Wexler possesses extensive cross-platform business development experience and a long-term record of success.  

Paul Weyland

Paul Weyland is a writer, speaker, trainer and university lecturer. He speaks to companies and organizations about how to increase sales and awareness through stronger marketing and advertising techniques. Paul delivers seminars and keynotes all over the world. Opening Reception and Dinner to Honor Broadcasting Legends

Steve Wheeler is IBA's 2019 Vincent T. Wasilewski "Broadcaster of the Year"

 Steve Wheeler is the 2019 IBA Broadcaster of the Year and will be honored during the Chairmen's Dinner on June 12, 2019.  Wheeler has served on the IBA Board of Directors for several terms, held the positioin of IBA Chairman of the Board, and has recently joined the Illinois Broadcasters Foundation Board of Directors.  Wheeler retired as General Manager of WSIL-TV, Carterville in January of 2019. 

 

Mike Reis to Receive the W. Russell Withers, Jr., Broadcast Pioneer Award

 Mike Reis is celebrating his 40 year career as a play-by-play broadcaster as the "Voice of the Salukis" and will be named IBA's Broadcast Pioneer on June 12, 2019.  

 


Mort Crim is IBA's Newest Member of the Hall of Fame

 Mort Crim is a broadcast journalist and author who spent more than forty years in both local and national radio and television news. He's covered presidential summits, space flights, a Mideast war, and for five years was Paul Harvey's regular vacation back-up.  Crim's nationally syndicated radio series, "Second Thoughts," was on the air for fifteen years and at it's peak, was carried by more that 1300 radio stations plus the Armed Forces Radio Network.

Among his more dubious credits are the two Anchorman movie satires for which Will Ferrell credits Mort and co-anchor Jessica Savitch with providing the "inspiration" for his character.

Crim will become the 61st inductee into the IBA Hall of Fame and joins other news professionals such as Paul Harvey, Hugh Downs, Mike Wallace, Bill Kurtis, Charles Gibson, Ann Compton, Bill Plante, and recently inducted George Will.

BMI Artist Hannah Ellis to Perform at Silver Dome Award Gala
 As Rolling Stone so cleverly put it, Hannah Ellis, is an artist for fans of “spontaneous declarations of love.” This Kentucky native is creating forward-thinking pop-country music, with a lyric that pulls from her real life and emotions. This approach has garnered Hannah some well-deserved attention in the last year, being named one of CMT’s Next Women of Country as well as one of Rolling Stone’s “Artist’s to Watch”. Her song “Home and a Hometown” premiered on CMT earlier last year and was featured on Wild Country and New Boots on Spotify.

Winners of the Silver Dome Awards for Excellence will be announced on June 13th as part of the awards gala presented by our friends at AT & T. 
Dr. Will Miller will open the awards presentation with a monologue.  
 
New for 2019- the Silver Dome Award of Excellence has been redesigned for this year's presentations.  Finalists not selected as the winner will go home with an upgraded framed certificate to proudly display at the station or office.  Photos will be  taken by a professional photographer to be made available for download the following day.

#WeAreBroadcasters and IBA will be recognizing multiple winners of the "Best Community Service Award" on stage, presented by members of the Illinois Army National Guard.
Station of the Year Awards will also be presented on stage by members of the IBA Board of Directors and will be given the oppportunity to address the audience from the podium.
