Painting!  

  

Learn how to mix and apply a variety paints and other media like ink, crayon, chalk pastel, and oil pastel and experiment with a variety of methods like pouring, splattering, and drizzling.  Learn how you can transfer images, build up surfaces, add layers, and take away layers and enjoy a number of games that will allow you to experiment with the properties of paint and identify mystery colors! 

 

*All camps are recommended for ages 7-13 and are held from 9:00am to 4:00pm daily.

Local Artist/Educator, Barbara Jernigan is back and will share her techniques, tried and true!


Barbara Brown Jernigan studied art at Georgia Southern College and with nationally famous watercolorists, Nita Engels, Skip Lawrence, Christopher Schink, Bryan Ateyo, Ted Minchin, George James, John Salminen and, most recently, Laurin McCracken.  She has won many awards and has exhibited in juried shows on the local, state, and national level.  Barbara enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge of watercolor, benevolently.  She remains active in a number of organizations including the Watauga Valley Art League, Kingsport Art Guild, the Florida, Southern and American Watercolor Societies, and the Tennessee Watercolor Society of which she was president from 2012 to 2016.  Barbara was inducted into the National League of American Pen Women and in 2011 received the YMCA Tribute to Women in the Arts.  She says, simply, “All I ever wanted to be was an artist.”

*Mixed Media Mania Art Camp is designed to allow campers to experiment with an array of artistic methods and mediums.  Each week of MMM is packed with fun right-brain activities and focuses on a different art medium.  Each week also features a professional guest artist who will share his or her art expertise!
