Altura Periodontics CE Event

When, Why and How to Biopsy Oral Lesions

Wednesday, September 11, 2019

Course Description:

Many of the conditions encountered in oral pathology may be diagnostically challenging to clinicians who do not see them with regularity. This presentation will help distinguish selected common innocuous lesions from more seldom-seen but clinically significant entities. The hands-on portion provides clinicians with experience performing uncomplicated soft-tissue biopsies under local anesthesia in out-patient settings.

In this session, the participant will learn to:

1. Prepare a differential diagnosis of commonly encountered oral infections, immune-mediated diseases, and tumors

2. Develop management strategies including pharmacologic treatment

3. List indications for biopsy and alternative diagnostic procedures; and

4. Compare and perform punch and scalpel biopsy techniques
