For exporters, a working knowledge of International Commercial Terms (INCOTERMS) is essential in avoiding pitfalls of conducting international business. Beginning in 1936 the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) created a set of transportation terms to prevent misunderstandings between sellers and buyers to provide international rules for foreign trade.
