The Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, in partnership with the Ohio Department of Health and the Ohio Domestic Violence Network, is pleased to present our 2019 Annual Statewide Conference:
COMMUNITIES IN ACTION
June 18-20, 2019
SART Conference: Tuesday, June 18, 1:00pm - 5:00pm
Annual Conference: Wednesday, June 19, 9:00am - 5:00 pm
Thursday, June 20, 9:00am - 5:00 pm
(check-in beginning at 8:00am both days)
As Ohio’s statewide sexual assault coalition, the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence (OAESV) and our members are dedicated to the making sure the energy of the movement does not get lost, and that it is elevated and built upon the tenants of a social justice movement that is inclusive of all those affected.
Thus, the theme of this year’s conference, Communities in Action, focuses on the collective power of communities and how intentional engagement can transform a culture that no longer allows sexual and intimate partner violence to occur. “Communities” can be defined in many ways, and it is our hope that this conference will help to expand the circle of partners and collaborators who care about safer communities, and are empowered to use their voices to help take action.
This conference provides educational opportunities to deepen our understanding of both prevention and intervention strategies, and to engage new partnerships in the movement. By engaging new partnerships and building new coalitions in the movement, we can improve our approach to sexual violence prevention and expand services to previously under/unserved survivors.
1) Identify 2 - 3 primary prevention efforts to increase program and policy work at the outer levels of the social ecological model.
2) Identify 2-3 non-traditional community partners from multiple fields and sectors to enhance the prevention of gender-based violence.
3) Demonstrate 2-3 new approaches to expand prevention or support services to populations experiencing health inequities.
4) Examine personal and organizational changes needed to disrupt behavior and systems that create distrust for populations or communities whom do not feel supported accessing services.
