In honor of Nurses Week, the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) welcomes provider agency and self-directed nurses to attend the conference, "Aspiration and Choking Risk Reduction", on Wednesday, May 8. Aspiration and choking are common risk factors for our participants and are associated with increased complications, hospitalizations and preventable deaths. An interdisciplinary team comprised of a Pharm D, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant and Speech Pathologist will share information and strategies for risk reduction techniques utilized in community settings. Topics presented will include the following: Implications of medications, risk identification, food and fluid consistencies, positioning challenges, best practices, and adaptive equipment. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day. Lunch will be provided and time will be allotted to visit vendors during breaks and lunch.
