The program's theme is 1619: Their Legacy Lives On.  This year, our event will span two days. We will focus on the 400 year anniversary of the first documented arrival of Africans to British Colonial America. The conference is co-sponsored by The New Jersey chapter of Afro-American History and Genealogical Society.

We will kickoff our conference with our annual awards dinner on Friday, June 7, starting at 6:00pm, in the Daly Mercer Room.  Our keynote speaker is Michael Coard, attorney, educator, and activist. The awardees are amazing individuals from around the country who are leaders in history and genealogy, specifically related to African-American heritage and slavery in the United States.  Among our honorees will be: Michael Coard, Dr. Erica Armstrong Dunbar, Rutgers University Professor, Author, Historian, Thom Reed, Deputy Chief Genealogical Officer of FamilySearch International, Regina Mason, Author and Speaker, Dr. Marion T. Lane, Educator, Author, and Historian, Kathryn Knight, Author and Historian, Nicka Smith, Genealogist. Our full conference begins at 8:30am on Saturday, June 8th in the Lynch Adler Building.  The program includes a remembrance ceremony for enslaved ancestors.  Our plenary speaker, Ric Murphy, Vice President of History AAHGS. He will discuss significance of Juneteenth. Our lunch speaker will be Kathryn Knight, Author of Unveiled: The 20 and Odd. She will discuss the topic of her forthcoming book describing the lives of the Africans of 1619. There will be ten informative sessions. Topics include: Basic Genealogy, The Basics of Genetic DNA, Using DNA To Find Enslaved Ancestors, Teaching the History of Slavery to Young Children, WPA Slave Narratives, Freedmen of the "Five Civilized Tribes"-A Personal Story, Using Genetic DNA to Complete Family Trees, and Yaff: The Amazing Life & Journeys of a Middle Passage Man.

Noted presenters include: Steve Hammond, LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson, Certified Genealogist, Rick Geffken, Renate Y. Sanders, Gene Armstead, Amy Thiriot, Gigi Best-Richardson, David Patterson, and Janice Gilyard.
