Native American Stories of the Northeast

Stories for Moon of Strawberries

Please join us at Pitney Meadows Community Farm for this family-friendly event to hear Abenaki master storyteller Joseph Bruchac, Executive Director of the Ndakinna Center in Greenfield, NY.

He has been sharing tales drawn from the traditions of his Native ancestors at such major events as the National Storytelling Festival for more than four decades. Author of over 160 books, including the seminal volumes Keepers of the Earth and Native American Gardening, the stories he’ll be sharing will focus on the nurturing relationships between the earth, the plants, and the people who respect them.

Through the telling of Native legends people of all ages can be taught valuable lessons and be amused at the same time. These legends, combined with traditional drum songs and explanation of various native philosophies and the traditions they contain, can help give people a better understanding of native culture. They also offer refreshing new perspectives of our relationship with each other and the rest of creation.
