COMMON PIR DAY

September 27, 2019

Join us for a day of learning with Pete Hall. A former teacher and principal, Mr. Hall is co-author of best-selling and award-winning Fostering Resilient Learners: Strategies for creating a trauma-sensitive classroom (ASCD, 2016) and Relationship, Responsibility, and Regulation - (ASCD, 2018) and a passionate advocate of the Whole Child.

In our continuing professional learning regarding SEL, self-regulation, and supporting the whole child, internationally-acclaimed presenter Pete Hall will share keen insights into the creation of a Culture of Safety that benefits all our students - and adults. Designed to go hand-in-hand with other sessions led by his co-author and partner Kristin Souers around the state of Montana, this workshop will review how toxic stress impacts the developing brain, enable participants to obtain clarity of their essential WHY, and explore communication strategies for partnership with parents and families. Learn the characteristics of a Culture of Safety, and implement timely interventions for our students by addressing the New 3 R’s  in education: Relationships, Responsibility, and Regulation. Using scenarios, research, and a bank of strategies aligned with MTSS, you will have time during the day to both collaborate with your colleagues and across Southwest Montana schools (in role- or grade-alike teams as well as in school teams) to brainstorm approaches to meet your students’ needs. Participants will leave refreshed and excited about meeting the challenges awaiting them, with tools in the toolbelt and the energy and optimism needed to use them.

SESSION LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Deepen understanding (key vocabulary and research behind) of childhood trauma
  • Embrace the need to build self-awareness and tend to self-care
  • Deepen understanding of the value of fostering a Culture of Safety: a safe, predictable, and consistent learning environment
  • Learn the new 3 R’s – an intervention model aligned with MTSS and packed full of multiple strategies for education staff and community members to utilize with children and staff with known (and unknown) trauma histories – helping to sustain learning-ready (and teaching-ready) states
  • Process real-life scenarios in a collaborative setting designed to facilitate a solution-oriented, strategy-rich protocol that can be replicated back at your building

In addition, we are offering:

 - Short video clips from Pete Hall with highlights from the day to share a preview with educators attending;

- An online pre-meeting with administrators to review big ideas, strategies, and resources that will be covered

Fee:  $35 per participant (includes lunch)
