The 2019 Advancing Behavioral Health Summit will be a unique gathering of professionals committed to building a systems change agenda for improving behavioral health outcomes in Wisconsin.

There are many systemic barriers that impede progress in behavioral health work in our communities and across our state. The ABH Summit will be an interactive meeting aimed at identifying and developing strategies to remove those barriers. Participants will learn about systems change, map systems change around one of four specific issues, and propose an actionable agenda of strategies to benefit people working to improve behavioral health access and outcomes in communities across Wisconsin.

Keynote speaker John Kania, a renowned expert in systems and social change and co-author of the seminal articles The Water of Systems Change, Collective Impact, and The Dawn of System Leadership, will share a new model for analyzing and mapping systems change work that will be used throughout the summit.

Following the keynote address, participants will split into four groups and spend the remainder of the day identifying system barriers and building system change strategies to advance work toward four goals:

1. Increasing the ability of schools to support students' social and emotional learning needs
2. Increasing the ability of schools to identify behavioral health needs of students early and provide or coordinate the provision of treatment and services
3. Improving the ability of individuals and families to access behavioral health services and community-based resources close to home when they are needed
4. Improving private and public sector employers' support of employees' behavioral health needs

The 2019 ABH Summit is presented by the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin Endowment, and is an extension of AHW's eight-year, $20 million Advancing Behavioral Health Initiative.
