July 29, 2019

9:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M.

Chris A. Sweigart, Ph.D., OVEC ECS Consultant

OVEC - 100 Alpine Dr. Shelbyville, KY 40065

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.  These skills are critical to success both in and out of school across one’s lifetime and are associated with other important school outcomes, such as academic achievement and appropriate behavior. All students can benefit from effective SEL, and some populations of students, such as those with disabilities, may need targeted, individualized SEL support to be successful in school and beyond.

Are you seeking to better understand SEL, including its benefits and how to promote positive skills and competencies among students?  In this half-day training, we will examine:

  • The impact of SEL on important student outcomes

  • A school-based framework for systematic SEL

  • Integration of SEL into existing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS)

  • Evidence-based SEL practices and approaches

  • Next steps for implementing or improving SEL in our schools

Audience: District & School Administrators, School Counselors, MTSS Team Members, School-based Mental Health Providers, Behavior Coaches, and General & Special Education Teachers
