Evidence-based Classroom Management

August 1, 2019

8:30 A.M. - 3:30 P.M.

Chris A. Sweigart, Ph.D., OVEC ECS Consultant

OVEC - 100 Alpine Dr. Shelbyville, KY 40065

Not only is classroom misbehavior a common barrier to student engagement, it is also a frequent source of stress and burnout for teachers.  Effective classroom management structures and practices are foundational to creating a positive and effective learning environment for students.  Teachers with better classroom management skills have students who spend more time actively engaged in instruction who, therefore, learn more during the school year.  Consequently, one of the most important jobs in the classroom is managing it effectively to maximize learning.

In this session, we will explore and plan to implement scientifically-validated best practices in classroom management; we will:

Identify & Examine the components of effective classroom management

Develop expertise in building relationships & supports

Revisit & Revise expectations & classroom rules

Devise a plan for teaching desired learning behaviors

Discover strategies for implementing clear procedures/routines

Acquire skills for applying reinforcement to promote positive                    behavior

Provide direction in delivering redirection and strategies for                    addressing challenging behavior
