IOA's 2019 Summer Pharmacology Seminar

Register today to attend IOA's Summer Seminar to be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at the Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana! This optometric continuing education (CE) event offers seven (7) hours of IOB and legend drug credit. CEE (continuing education with exam) will not be offered at this event.

The course, Pain management, Identification of Addiction, Practices of Prescribing, and Dispensing of Opioids, also meets the requirements of Indiana Code 35-48-3-3.5, enacted in 2018, which requires that a licensed health care practitioner who applies for registration or reregistration for a controlled substances registration after July 1st, 2019 must have completed two (2) hours of continuing education during the previous two (2) years addressing the topic of opioid prescribing and opioid abuse.  Optometrists who hold an Indiana Controlled Substances Registration will need to complete a qualifying course before April 1, 2020.

Oral Pharmaceuticals in Eye Care Brought to You by an Optometrist and Pharmacist
Description: Oral pharmaceuticals are essential tools in the management of patients in optometric practices. This course will primarily discuss diagnoses that need to utilize oral systemic antibiotics, antivirals and pain medications in eye care patients. Additional oral medications may be described when applicable to a patient case. Practical information regarding the identification of adverse allergic reactions, pregnancy and dosing will be discussed. 2 Hours IOB and Legend Drug

Common Adverse Effects of Anti-Diabetic Medications
Description: This course reviews diabetes mellitus Type 1, Type 1.5, and Type 2 with particular emphasis on the extensive list of adverse effects from both older and newer anti-diabetic agents. This course will be interactive with the audience, an optometrist and a pharmacist.
1 Hour IOB and Legend Drug

Pain management, Identification of Addiction, Practices of Prescribing, and Dispensing of Opioids
Description: This is an oral pharmacology course that describes the appropriate use of opioid medications, with an emphasis on pain management within the scope of optometry and general pain management. Case anecdotes will include management of ocular pain, with specific emphasis on oral systemic medications. Opioid medications will be evaluated in terms of risk versus benefit, with an emphasis on appropriate use of pain medications, evaluation of potential addiction, and a description on how to protect both patient and practitioner. 2 Hours IOB and Legend Drug

Pharmaceutical Update 2019 – New Drugs and Indications
Description: Every year the FDA approves numerous pharmaceuticals for treatment of diseases in the various medical therapeutic areas. This course will review the recently approved pharmaceuticals that are pertinent to optometric patient care. Pharmaceuticals covered will include but not limited to endocrinology, cardiology, vascular disease, infections, neurology, optometry, psychology and urology. Indication of use, mechanism of action and ocular side effects will be reviewed.

REFUND POLICY:  All requests for refunds must be made in writing and must be postmarked or sent via email no later than June 28, 2019.  Refund requests made on or before June 28, 2019, will receive a full refund.  Requests made between June 29 and July 9, 2019, will receive a 75% refund.  No refunds will be made after July 9, 2019.
