In honor of National Nurses Week, we are extending the celebration throughout the month with a lively and timely discussion on nursing's pivotal role in improving healthcare access and quality. Speaker Bios

 

Janet Rico, MBA, NP-BC, PhD

Assistant Dean, Nursing Graduate Programs, School of Nursing

Janet Sweeney Rico is the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs at Northeastern University. She has practiced in nursing homes, rehab and clinic settings, homecare, emergency, urgent care, and in-patient settings as a Nurse Practitioner and presently practices in the emergency department at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Ms. Sweeney has served as the Chair of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, the Co-Chair of Massachusetts’ Task Force for Medically Complex Individuals Turning 22 with ID/DD, on the Boards of the ARC of Massachusetts and Vinfen Corporation, and on the Massachusetts’ Patient Centered Medical Home Council. She presently serves on Fallon Community Health Plan’s Board of Directors and as Chair of Fallon’s Safety and Quality Committee. She also serves as Chair of the ARC of Massachusetts’ Steering Committee and the Massachusetts PCA Workforce and Advisory Councils.

Ms. Sweeney is a Fellow in the National Academy of Practice and was the 2018 recipient of the Massachusetts’ Department of Developmental Disabilities Allen Crocker Award for leadership in clinical care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is the 2019 recipient of the Arc of Massachusetts’ Joseph Andrade Award for Leadership.

Ms. Sweeney received a BSN from St. Anselm College, a master’s degree in Primary Care/Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an MBA with a specialization in healthcare from Boston University, and a PhD in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University.

Colleen Hole, BSN, MHA, FACHE

Vice President, Clinical Integration in Population Health

Atrium Health

Colleen Hole serves as Vice President, Clinical Integration in Population Health at Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System). In this system-level role, she is responsible for integrating the principles of Population Health and value-based care into clinical and operational practice.

Prior to assuming this role in 2017, Ms. Hole served in the CHS Medical Group overseeing strategic direction and practice operations for six provider specialties including, Pulmonary, Critical Care, Infectious Disease, Palliative Care, Geriatrics, and Emergency Medicine. In addition, she lead the CHS Critical Care Network to standardize, coordinate and enhance critical care services across all CHS facilities.

Ms. Hole has held several nurse leader positions during her career with a clinical focus primarily in critical care and obstetrics. In addition to her healthcare career, she spent a number of years as a consultant and speaker on various aspects of organizational culture including communication, change management, conflict management, and teamwork. 

Ms. Hole received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and began her nursing career at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in 1984. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, ANCC certified as a Nurse Executive, and was a 2008 recipient of the North Carolina Great 100 award.
