Reader-Writer Workshop Series
Grades 6-8

Are you relatively new to the workshop model or looking to refresh and refine your workshop strategies and techniques? If so, please join us for this series, which will provide the necessary tools to implement and effectively manage Lucy Calkins Readers and Writers Units of Study. Each session is designed to support a manageable structure to successfully and strategically develop and enhance a workshop classroom.

Update: The 2019-2020 Reader Writer Workshop series will now be a combination of all three grade levels (K-2, 3-5 & 6-8).  This will allow for vertical conversations between grade levels, while still being able to meet your individual needs!

Session 1:
  • Introduction to the Units of Study: materials & structures
  • Mini-lesson format
  • Exploring the first unit of study
  • Resources

Session 2:

  • Conferring structure
  • Assessment
  • Data tracking
  • Goal-setting
  • Anchor charts

 Session 3:

  • Small groups/Strategy groups
  • Learning progressions
  • Readers/Writers Notebook

Audience (specific to each grade level): Grade level teachers, reading specialists/reading teachers, principals, and coaches with less than 3 years experience in Lucy Calkins Units of Study in Reading and/or Writing

Please bring Reading or Writing Units of Study and a fully-charged electronic device to each session.

Dinner will be included with each session.
